San Diego Palm User GroupFor all Palm and Palmsource based PDAs such as the Treo, Tungsten, Clie, Visor, and Garmin GPS PDAs.MobileTools ReviewMobileTools from Handmark includes 10 of the most popular utilities available for Palm Powered PDAs at what the company says is 70% savings! The tools are: BackupBuddy (Windows users only) - The industry standard backup utility for the Palm OS. With BackupBuddy you have complete control and visibility to the files that are backed up to your Windows PC each time you HotSync. In the event of a catastrophic data failure on your Palm OS, device simply HotSync to restore all your Palm OS data! Retail Price: $29.95. This is a must have for those of us who have applications other than the standard Palm OS ones such as Address Book etc. BackupBuddyVFS - For users of devices that support the Virtual File System (VFS) BackupBuddy effortlessly backs up your organizers critical files to the Sony Clie's Memory Stick® or to Secure Digital or MultiMedia expansion cards for Palm organizers. In the event of a loss of data simply press the "restore" button to restore your organizers data from the expansion card! Retail Price: $9.99. Not having a VFS supporting Palm like the m500 or Sony Clie, I can't speak to the efficacy of this, but if it is as handy as BackBuddy it may be worth its inclusion. PrintBoy - Wirelessly print your Palm data to an IR-capable printer. MobileTools includes the component to print data from your Address Book, Date Book, To Do list, Memo Pad, MobileDB, Checklist, 4.0Student and WordSmith. Retail Price: $29.99. Unfortunately, I don't have an IR-enabled printer, and am a bit of a paper free fanatic anyway, so again I can't address this tool. Checklist - Manage a large number of checklists such as shopping lists, packing lists, weekly chores around the house, etc.. Map your To Do button to launch Checklist as it makes an excellent To Do list replacement. Retail Price: $14.99. Now, this is a great little application. You could probably achieve the same result with some creative use of your To Do List, but this makes it much more feasible. Those lists of things that I used to keep in Memo, can be imported into Checklist, and it will assign a checkbox for each different line. This is one tool that I will definitely be using. One drawback is that access to the data is only available on the Palm. This one really cries out for a desktop incarnation. FilePoint - Access the data and application files on your Palm OS device through a Windows-like file explorer interface. Now you can easily manage and organize all the data on your Palm OS device and expansion card memory! Retail Price: $29.99. Now this is interesting, but I still haven't figured out what use it will be. I don't know if the Palm platform lends itself to the explorer interface. Still, I have only had it for a day. MobileSafe - Safely and securely store all your passwords, PIN numbers, and login ID's with the original Palm OS security application. Retail Price: $14.99. Probably would have been great six years ago when I started accumulating all my logins. I may get around to using it when I have time to transfer all the data to it. Many of us use "big computer" apps like Gator to accomplish the same task anyway. SuperUtility - The ultimate Palm OS power user and developer
tool is now even better! Now you have complete access and control over
any internal information on your device or expansion cards. Beam, delete,
copy, move or modify any file or databases on your Palm OS device or SD/MMC
expansion card. Retail Price: $19.99 SuperClock - Turn your Palm OS device into an essential travel alarm clock! Never create a Date Book item for a simple wake-up alarm again! Retail Price: $9.99. Nice. AutoSync - Set a time to automatically HotSync your Palm device each day. Works perfectly as an automated daily backup with BackupBuddy. Retail Price: $9.95. I don't see much use for this, as when my Palm is in its cradle is unpredicatable. TimeSync - Automatically match your organizers
clock to that of your desktop computer so that your clocks always stay
in-sync. Works with both Macintosh and Windows systems. Retail Price:
$9.95. To make this useful, I'd have to figure out a way to keep my
PC clock correct. It comes with a little manual, and HTML help files. Paul Palm User Group Home | Palm User Group Calendar | Palm and PDA Links | Palm and PDA News | Palm and PDA Downloads | Palm and PDA Notes | Palm and PDA To do | Contact the Palm User Group
